While Afrobeat and Afropop may be what the world revolves music around within Africa, there is a sealed music scene. This very music genre of rapping has formed part of us, as Africans thus enlightening hip hop music in Africa.

While the introduction of rapping was formed as a result of combining a sub-genre of hip hop known as Hiplife. Hiplife was Ghana’s indigenous turntable rap. With the introduction of Hiplife into the country being an achievement of its pioneer, Reggie Rockstone, in the 19th century, he has paved the way for other amazing artists like KK Fosu, Obrafour, Lord Kenya, Okyeame Kwame, who later passed the baton to these wonderful personalities in the person of Sarkodie, Strongman, Medikal, Lyrical Joe, just to mention a few.

Despite the fact that Ghana’s most popular music genres are Afrobeat or preferably Afropop, Ghanaian rappers tend to make it in the industry by adapting their rap flows into different genres. It is undisputable that most Ghanaian rappers have been successful in incorporating Ghanaian culture, values, customs and even the Ghanaian language into songs.
