Early Life
Nadia Nakai was born in Johannesburg in South Africa on 18, May, 1990. Her mom being a Zimbabwean and her dad a South African. At the age of 16, her surname was changed to that of her dad’s, but for what reason? It remains undisclosed.
Nakai attended Four Ways High School in South Africa, Johannesburg for a year, then continued to Kenya. She later proceeded to Monash University in Johannesburg where she studied marketing, communication and media studies.
Career
Nakai Nadia made her first appearance on Television on e.tv Hip Hop Shiz Nowhere she won the Mixtape 101 competition, making her the fist female to win the competition.
She rose to prominence in September 2013 following the release of her third single debut single, Like Me. The following year she was featured on the remix of Ricky Rick’s song, Amatombazane along with other artists.
Nadia Nakai has signed to the record labels, Def Jam Africa, and Bragga Records. She had previously signed to Family Tree Records and Sid Records.
Nakai Nadia revealed that she was inspired by a female Kenyan rapper, Nazizi, who she met while she was staying in Kenya. She revealed that Nazizi influenced her in starting her rapping career.
